Illustrator Mark Smith was commissioned by Alta Journal to create editorial artwork for the article, “The California Novel No One Can Find.” Mark’s work creates a sense of adventure and discovery that pairs well with the featured article, which depicts the hunt for The Life and Adventures of Joaquin Murieta, one of the rarest books from the Zamorano Eighty list of California foundational novels.
