Angelo Merendino’s latest assignment for The New York Times shines a light on a pernicious problem and the group of teenagers and non-profits who are doing something about it in their local community. As the saying goes, “It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it,” and in this instance the job is capping orphan oil and gas wells that are releasing dangerous methane gas unchecked. Angelo Merendino effectively captures what a hard job this is, but these young people know their future is at stake. Well done!
