Advertising, editorial, children’s books, GIF’s and animation. Our contributors have had a busy year. Here is just a small sampling of our contributors favorite projects this year with more to come!
Lisa Plaskett created this editorial illustration for San Francisco Magazine on wellness culture in the Bay Area. The story outlined healthy strategies for managing stress during the holidays: yoga, aromatherapy and trading your espresso for oolong tea. Lisa says, "So fun to capture this relaxing moment…I loved working with color, shape + texture to bring this concept to life!
"This was my favorite project of 2019, for Penguin Random House, illustrating the latest “Elbow Grease” book by John Cena. It was a lot of fun returning to the monster truck brothers, and designing a souped up robo-monster-villain for the story. It’s also been a treat having my name next to such a high profile celebrity as John Cena (with his corresponding ability to shift copies of the book)!" Howard McWilliam
Agency: MVNP, Client: First Hawaiian Bank.
"One of my best of 2019 because it was a pleasure to work with the Art Director in creating a holiday greeting that reflects the season Hawaiian style. The gentle animation of swaying palm trees, glittering lights and stars in combination with an acoustic soundtrack capture the simple joys of nature, family and friends." Jing Jing Tsong
"With the School of Visual Arts “ART IS!” series, the artist is asked to interpret what “art is!” means to them. The parameters were very open, and they had responded well to my style in which I make toys. Gail Anderson (creative director) just wanted me to do my thing, and was very supportive of everything I brought in. To me, art can include play and exploration, which was the basis for the series. We created one large poster for the NYC Subway, and a series of 3 animations for the LinkNYC animated kiosks on the street level around NYC. I’m honored to be on the list of artists who have created these posters over the years." Richard Borge
"The client was CBA, for Purina cat and dog foods. Color was added by CBA, and I like the way they mixed loose colors with the tight scratchboard style, I think it works well." Raphael Montoliu
"This was such a great project that I got to do for Integer and Starbucks for their web ads. They wanted a stylized collage image that represented the bright flavors of Starbucks Breakfast Blend." Donna Grethen
"12" is a personal project chosen for "Art-A-Fair" Laguna Festival of Arts 2019. This image bridged illustration and fine art, showed me the pros and cons of being a digital artist." Amy Ning
"Whole Foods Market hired me at the beginning of 2019 to create a large library of illustrations that they are using on everything from grocery bags, to packaging, to wall art.
It’s been a joy to work with the art director, who’s given me free rein to develop the drawings. The work is ongoing and is really a dream job!" Nicole Kaufman
Arthur James created the "Works of Heart" project for Baylor Scott & White Hospitals. It's a campaign promotion for the Heart Hospitals or Baylor. BSWH selected 10/12 Artists/Designers around the country to participate. The artists met with a selected Baylor patient who had a heart procedure. We learned their stories, and then from that we created a fine art piece inspired by them. Most of the artists selected were tied into the greater Illustration/Advertising/Design industry. Pretty cool. Arthur James Creative
"Publishing in the New Yorker is a dream come true. Also, one of my favorite hobbies is dancing. This assignment had everything." Laura Liedo
