Editorial prompts and headlines were the spark for the visual metaphors Bill Mayer recently created for Plan Adviser. “Navigating a volatile storm,” “Danger lurking below” and “Trying to find stability”were the prompts for a rather dense financial story about the financial impact of Covid on the global economy.
Bill's work for the American Gas Magazine needed to reflect the emergent technologies in manufacturing and agriculture that the industry is undergoing. The art director aptly referenced "Tommorowland," a science fiction film set in the future. Bill melded that reference with covers of Pulp Magazine from the 1930's and 40's by connecting piping from older fuel cells with new fuel cell technology as human figures stroll through the environment. His chosen pallet reflects the color of a burning gas flame. Bill shares working sketches for both projects.
