Blair Kelly Channels April Showers for the Literary Review Canada

Posted on

Illustrator Blair Kelly was recently commissioned to illustrate the front and back cover of the Literary Review of Canada. The editor mentioned April showers as the theme, and several sketches later the idea of an urban mom collecting worms for her babies was selected. Illustrating the back of a magazine is an incredibly rare opportunity to further the story on the back. The April issue was also unique in that the print run was split with half the covers featuring Blair’s work and half featuring another illustrator. They even asked Blair and the other Illustrator to interview each other for their Substack. April may bring showers, but it didn’t deter Blair from having the best time on this assignment, “It doesn’t get more fun than this!”
