Model 2340 is a prefabricated house designed in 1958 by the Alside Homes Corporation and is located about an hour’s drive outside Chicago in Michigan City, Indiana. Although for many the idea of a prefab house denotes sameness, production of the house was very limited, and today the history and design of the house give it a unique quality. The home perfectly suits the modern aesthetic that Coscarelli and Valentine favor.
Since the house was the fully decorated sales model, the original owner, Mr Frost, was able to purchase the furnishings, including designs that are still manufactured by the Knoll Corporation today. Brochures and magazines from the time helped the new owners restore the interiors and add appropriate details. With architecture and interiors a specialty, Coscarelli beautifully photographed the exterior and interior of the house, which look as fresh and modern as they did almost sixty years ago.
