Chris Crisman and the Making of Mezcal

Posted on

In a move to create a healthier diet, photographer Chris Crisman decided that beer, among other things, was off the menu, and as he searched for an alternative, he came across the agave spirits, specifically Mezcal. He also found a new story to tell that involves the beauty of the people and places where Mezcal is still created with ancestral processes passed down through the generations, deeply rooted in the Oaxacan region of Mexico. Chris and his crew visited and worked with seven different family-owned single village palenques on his trip, where the agave is roasted, crushed, fermented, distilled, and bottled, often just footsteps away from a producer’s home.
