Dan Goldberg’s Quarantine Still Life

Posted on

When shelter-in-place orders were issued, photographer Dan Goldberg turned to the slow and calming process of shooting still life to calm his nerves.  He rummaged through the cabinets in his studio and opened up a north-facing window and got to work. Like many artists and photographers before him, he’s made beautiful images through a combination of the ordinary, mundane detritus of life and beautiful natural light. He says,”I felt like I was shooting 8×10 film. I was getting back to my roots and falling in love with the process all over again. I looked in the panty and found some spam, sardines, and an orange. Then I saw a bottle of homemade wine that I brought back from Macau, China.
I turned on Neil Young, and I was in my own world.”
