One of the biggest challenges involved in creating this wave of cash was finding this many world currencies in multiple denominations. The international restrictions on rendering any currency through digital means make it virtually impossible to photograph bank notes from any country. So it took “a-guy-who-knows-a-guy” for photographer Hugh Kretchmer to get what he needed and turned out to be all on the up and up and perfectly legal.
This recent project for McKinsey Quarterly on navigating inflation landed on Hugh’s desk just as he was coming down with a bad case of Covid-19. As a consolation he completed the assignment at home and in his pajamas.
