Shooting stills and motion in Malibu, Bonneville Salt Flats, and Yosemite National Park with no agency and no comps all added up to a “dream job” for photographer Hunter Freeman and producer Connie Conway. There were some challenges though; the client, start-up, SolPad, was on a tight schedule, and there were mountains of paperwork involved in securing locations. The Federal Bureau of Land Management is very protective of its wilderness areas like Bonneville, and Yosemite Management works hard to protect it’s pristine beauty, so there were a few promises made to tread lightly.
With the catch line “Power is Beautiful,” Hunter, Connie, and the rest of the crew placed SolPad, which is a portable, non-stationary, solar-powered consumer product, in the most beautiful setting they could find in each location. They also created the video for the launch event and a promotional video called “Power from Another Planet,” where they even took SolPad to the moon.
