Ian Coble Captures the Lure of the Outdoor Life

“This is the third shoot I’ve done for Old Town Canoes over the past four years and one of my favorites for 2019. I’ve always loved shooting with them as I really get along well with their art director, and I love the story of their brand. When they approached me about this shoot, I jumped at the opportunity. It required a fair amount of location scouting in advance in order to find the right locations at which to shoot, but we were really happy with the areas we found just outside of Seattle. The shoot ended up taking two days in total.
Challenging aspects were budget driven. When shooting watercraft, it’s incredibly helpful to have a boat to shoot from, but because of budget constraints, we couldn’t swing the cost of one. So all locations had to offer a wide variety of looks that could be shot from shore and also have good access into the water for both the kayakers and for myself, in order to shoot underwater shots.
Favorite parts of the shoot: I always love shooting from in the water. The perspective of being right at the water level always makes an image feel so much more connected to the environment…and I love being in the water, so that’s an added bonus.” Ian Coble
