The residents of Gloucester Massachusetts have been diving, jumping, flipping, and cannonballing off the Magnolia Pier for generations. It’s considered a rite of passage. But after three storms slammed the coastline in 2018, “The Soul Of The City,”as it is also known, would have been demolished if it hadn’t been for a grassroots effort that raised $900,000 to rebuild it. And no sooner was it rebuilt, than the kids, or “pier thugs,” as photographer Michael Prince jokingly calls them, were back. He was there too, covering all the pent up energy.
