Kevin Sprouls Publishes His Long-Awaited ‘Mince of Heathermere’

Illustrator Kevin Sprouls is proud to announce the publication of his book, Mince of Heathermere, for which he serves as both writer and illustrator. The book, which began during his art school days in 1977, has finally come to life thanks to a combination of persistence, creative collaboration, and a bit of neighborly luck.

What started as a student project at Tyler School of Art was shelved for years until Sprouls connected with retired book designer Mike Havecott. The two worked closely to bring the book into the digital age, using Adobe InDesign to reimagine the original layout and typography.

Although Sprouls had originally typeset the book on state-of-the-art equipment back in the ’70s, the project required a complete overhaul for modern publishing. With the help of his wife (who retyped the manuscript) and Havecott’s design expertise, Mince of Heathermere took shape once again.

After some careful proofing, layout tweaks, and one final push, Sprouls gave the green light to BookBaby to print 250 copies. The result? A beautifully finished book that reflects both his lifelong commitment to illustration and his unique storytelling voice.
