Kremer Johnson and Their Craigslist Encounters

Posted on

The ad reads: “Portrait subjects needed (anywhere). Compensation: $20 per hour. Portrait photographer seeking subjects. Looking for interesting people to photograph…all shapes, races, genders, and sizes are welcome. I will come to you at your convenience.”

It’s not that it hasn’t been done before, but photographers Kremer Johnson manage to make this series of Craigslist Encounters their own. The environment for the series is clearly LA, as the subjects stand on apartment balconies and rooftops, hike in the foothills,  sit beside swimming pools, and of course, in their cars. Most of the shoots take less than an hour, from determining location to setting up lighting. “If it takes longer, there’s probably not a shot there to begin with,” says Kremer. And besides, he probably wants to beat the traffic to his next location.

To date, Kremer Johnson have shot 29 people for the series and plan to photograph 100 in total. Still in the planning stages are a female porn star, a woman with a butterfly collection, and an Elvis impersonator from Italy. You can read more about the project at behance and PDN.
