The first time photographer Mary Rafferty visited the Urban Growers Collective she was hooked. UGC is a Black and women-led non-profit farm in Chicago’s South Side, and towards the end of last summer, she began work on a pro bono project organized and facilitated by ASMP, APA and photographer Scott Van Osdol. She was there to document the farm and what happens there as the group works to build a more just and equitable local food system. She came away with thirty beautiful portraits of the individuals involved and their connection to the land and the food they harvest to share with others.
