Megan Piontkowski Imagines Some New Faces for American Currency

Posted on

The decision is made: Harriet Tubman will appear on the $20 bill (Andrew Jackson will move to the back), but the US has five other denominations, and Megan Piontkowski imagines new portraits for all of them. And why shouldn’t American currency feature other great women from American history? Megan created this personal series of bill-sized paintings that shows us her top picks for the honor.

The $1 bill features Margaret Sanger, a birth control and sex education activist. Poet Maya Angelou graces the $5 bill, and designer and sculptor Maya Lin is on the $10. Annie Dodge Wauneka, the first woman to sit on the Navajo Council and who advocated for education and healthcare, is on the $50 bill, and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg crowns the $100 bill.
