Who doesn’t love a shoot with a lot of animals?
Photographer Nate Ryan partnered with Colle McVoy to create photography for the “Care Is the Calling” campaign for Zoetis pet pharmaceuticals, producing a library of images inside a working veterinary clinic that highlights the connection between veterinary professionals and the animals in their care. While Nate initially wasn’t familiar with Zoetis as a company, he quickly recognized their logo on his own dog’s medications.
Planning the shoot required a carefully structured schedule of both human and animal talent, aiming to capture as much variety as possible in each space throughout the clinic. With six people and seven animals, the day was organized into 15-minute increments to ensure Nate captured everything efficiently while keeping animals on set for the shortest time possible, helping maintain their focus and comfort in front of the camera.
Utilizing a gaffer and continuous lights helped keep the animals from being distracted by the flashes of photography strobes, and easier for the in-house agency video team to capture some content along side the still production.
Working with a mix of real veterinary professionals, professional talent, and a range of animals made for a complex production. The goal was to maximize image variety while minimizing time on set for the animals so they remained attentive and camera-ready.
This shoot ended on a personal note for Nate. “My grandfather was vet professor, so it was especially meaningful to celebrate this world, and to support a company whose products I use with my own pup.”
