For the past three years, photographer Nikki Richter has collaborated with Limitless Horizons Ixil in Chajul, Guatemala, documenting the powerful story of education and community while honoring and preserving the Ixil Maya culture. This series of images reflects the organization’s deeply rooted work in supporting Indigenous youth and families – both inside and outside the classroom.
Richter was welcomed into everyday moments where tradition and progress intersect. Limitless Horizons Ixil recently expanded its efforts with the opening of Colegio Horizontes’ high school, which is designed to center young women’s education while fostering leadership and inclusion among all students. As School Director Odilia Cedillo shared at the school’s opening: “Today, as we inaugurate this school, we renew our commitment to opening doors for those who have faced more obstacles than opportunities.” Richter’s work reflects the community’s strength and serves as a reminder that education is a collective journey that uplifts young women while inviting young men to become allies in shaping a more equitable future.
