Not Every Photographer Is Cut Out to Share a Video Set, but George Kamper Makes it Work

Posted on

Not every photographer is cut out to share a video set, but George Kamper has the skills to make it work. Today, it’s at least fifty percent of the work he does.

For one thing, he’s figured out that the smart producers and directors all realize they’re working for the same client, and their mutual success has an impact on how they will be viewed by clients. The days of the prima donna director have pretty much evaporated in today’s economy. George makes a point of attending the pre-pro meeting, so that by the time the shoot day rolls around, there’s an open line of communication and everyone’s working toward a common goal. On set, he works quickly and amicably between motion takes to get the shot, as well as some great behind-the-scenes imagery. His approach gives the print portion of the campaign a fresh spontaneous feel, always mindful of the need to stay “invisible” and on schedule.

He and his crew work as a self-contained unit, careful not to impose on the video staff. That means having his own digital tech, additional lighting, and iPads for CDs and clients to see him working in real time. It’s all win-win.
