Illustrator Peter Donnelly recently released his latest picture book, I Am Not A Dog, published by Gill books. The story follows a mutt who can’t work out quite where he fits in between the Great Danes and the greyhounds, the Border collies and the bulldogs – and don’t even mention the marmalade cat!
‘Okay, lets get one thing straight…I am NOT a dog. I’m scrawny and my coat is wiry. One of my ears is bigger than the other, and my fur is patchy all over. I’m not strong or classy, fast or glossy, brave or clever, loud or tough. I’m not the same as the others. I am NOT a dog.’
Since his best selling debut The President’s Glasses (2017) Peter has sold over 140,000 books and continues to create award winning titles for children in Ireland, the UK and the USA. His much loved President series (Gill books) won the An Post Specsavers Book of the Year Award (jnr) in 2018 and 2023. His picture books The Dead Zoo (2020) and The Great Discovery (2024) (Gill books) have both been shortlisted for the Children’s Book of the Year as well as his nature book Up On The Mountain (2021).
Peter wrote and illustrated I Am Not A Dog, which has already hit back order status! The US release of the book is set for October 29, 2026.
