Photographer, Director Kevin Arnold Works the Landscape

Posted on

Pre-pandemic, photographer Kevin Arnold was shooting in urban settings like Vancouver and in the remote wilds of the Yukon, each with its unique challenges.

-Kevin’s shoot for Blue Cross Blue Shield required twenty-nine different lifestyle shots, each with a unique location and cast, in just four days. For this reason and other budgetary restraints, Kevin shot in Vancouver which offered a huge variety of locations available in close proximity, and cast real people and their friends and families in order to create an image library for the healthcare company.
-A job for Coors Light for ARC Worldwide, also shot in Vancouver, required a summer vibe, but was shot in rainy fall weather. To give the locations a relaxed summery look,  Kevin used  motion-style lighting rather than traditional strobes, and it worked perfectly. The only other issue was keeping the models warm, but they were all hardy Canadians!
-Kevin’s work for Woods Overland is a favorite of cast and crew. It was a true adventure for all involved, given that it was a cast of real friends who had never experienced life in the northern Yukon Territory, which lent an authenticity to everything they shot. During the month of July, the Yukon only gets a few hours or darkness each day and even then, it’s never completely dark. This requires shooting very early and very late to get the light they wanted.
-Created for CMD Agency in Portland, and shot on location at a granite mine in Vermont, Kevin’s imagery for Gates Fluid Power is the real thing. As Kevin says, “You can fake authenticity, or you can just shoot the real deal, and that’s what we did here.”
