Photographers Terri Glanger and Stewart Cohen were selected to be the cover artists for this edition and went above and beyond.
Here’s what Terri had to say about being selected and the inspiration behind her cover image.
How did you feel about being asked to be a cover artist for Workbook 47?
I felt extremely honored and humbled, as there are so many incredible artists that are part of Workbook! I have been enjoying viewing the Workbook for well over twenty years. Seeing all of the amazing work produced by photographers and illustrators has been a great source of inspiration and aspiration.
What was the concept or inspiration behind the image?
I have worked with the talented food stylist Alyssa Wernick for many years now, and we love teaming up to get as creative as possible and test out ideas without the pressure of a client. Testing often is the best way to push boundaries both technically and creatively. We wanted to take on the challenge of shooting a champagne tower and aimed to capture all of the pours, spills, bubbles, and splashes in a way that felt playful and celebratory. We also did a GIF of the tower using stop motion, but I loved the challenge of encapsulating the feeling of the GIF in a single-frame still as well.
Your image evokes feelings of community and celebration. What are you looking forward to celebrating this holiday season going into next year?
It’s wonderful to hear that the image evokes those feelings. This holiday season I’m looking forward to simply being with family and, of course, enjoying a series of indulgent meals together! I’m fortunate that we celebrate in my hometown and that we have relatives coming to join us from all over the country. My family means the world to me, so being together is priceless!
