Spotlight on Editorial Illustration: Greg Betza for The Boston Globe

Posted on

This wasn’t Greg Betza’s first assignment for the Globe,  but was his first full-page book review illustration. The subject:  Republic of Detours: How the New Deal Paid Broke Writers to Rediscover America by Scott Borchert.
It’s the story of the Federal Writer’s Project, a depression era creation of the WPA. The project funded out-of-work writers  to document the country, state by state. Greg says,”This piece was really fun to do, and as usual, I learned about something new. I’m looking forward to reading this book.”
