Sue Barr Reflects on AI in Her Latest Substack Article

Posted on

In her latest Substack article, Photographer Sue Barr offers a compelling defense of human artistry in the age of AI. While machine intelligence continues to evolve, Sue points out a fundamental limitation: technology can only build upon what human creators have already intimately sought out and experienced.

As Sue notes, “No matter how good AI gets, it is still working from what has already been created. The real work is still in noticing what is happening in front of you, reading the room, and building trust.”

“My process has always been about light, direction, and especially empathy,” Sue writes, adding, “My goal is to make images and content that feel human, beautifully seen, and real enough to linger.” While technology moves fast, the innate sensibility required to read a room, build trust, and capture raw authenticity remains an exclusively human accomplishment.
