Whether he’s collaborating on a formal portrait or capturing the essence of a stranger on the fly, Matt Carr consistently coaxes beautifully honest and compelling portraits from his subjects and seems as comfortable with the randomness of the street as he is with his more nuanced studio work.
Take a look at his Instagram feed, and you’ll find the unfolding story of his experience as a working photographer, the people he meets (some famous, some not), interspersed with places and things he finds interesting, and an occasional self-portrait. It’s a beautiful, interesting feed. He told us he is mindful of the flow of imagery, and it shows. He seems to have a lot of interaction with his followers, which helps him gauge which images are most likely to make it into his portfolio.
Matt’s work has appeared in numerous publications including the New York Times, ESPN, Entertainment Weekly, Premiere, Men’s Health, and Rolling Stone, and he’s won recognition from Communication Arts, American Photo, Hasselblad Masters, PDN and IPA.
