Illustrator Luisa Jung has been busy with two impactful pieces of commissioned work.
The first is her brand new cover and opener commissioned by C&EN News for a story about the global race to discover elements 119 and 120—potential new additions to the periodic table. Teams in the US, Russia, Germany, China, and Japan are using particle accelerators to smash atoms together at high speeds, hoping to synthesize these elements for just a split second before they break apart. Japan has recently taken the lead in this high-stakes search for the next element on the table.
The second project was creating more than 60 conceptual illustrations and hand-lettered designs for wandeln – My Lenten Guide 2025 by Andere Zeiten. This beautifully curated book takes readers through the seven weeks from Ash Wednesday to Easter Monday, with a unique theme and color palette for each week. Each day features a different text, paired with a custom illustration, offering reflections, meditations, and exercises from international authors and the editorial team. This year is especially meaningful as wandeln celebrates its 10th anniversary.
