Workbook turns 40 this year and there’s a lot to celebrate! As Richard Borge shows us, technology has given artists and their clients new ways to express ideas that not long ago just weren’t available. He, like other illustrators, has mastered many of the new programs available and now offers his clients, such as the New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, and Johns Hopkins Medical Center, not only “traditional” illustration but the means to expand on an idea through animated imagery.
Most of Richard’s current projects involve working with 3D software, which he uses for the creation of both his illustration and animation projects, but he says, “For me, it still all starts with an idea and sketches on paper or an iPad.” He likes that currently, “There is a trend in first creating a still image, then animating it into a loop for the client’s site or social media feed.” Such is the case with this anniversary cake he sent us. As this creative trend continues to develop and expand, Workbook intends to be on the forefront showcasing all the new and exciting work from our talented contributors, including Richard and many others.
