Joshua Steadman Hangs Out at Redeemed Cycles

Posted on

Joshua Steadman of Steady Film started spending weekends hanging out in his friend Bob Ranew’s garage watching as he went about the painstaking  process of modifying and rebuilding an old Honda CB650. By day, Bob Ranew is a creative director responsible for crafting the brand identities of national companies, but in this case, it is his passion for bringing an old discarded bike back to life that became the basis for a different kind of collaboration. Joshua was there photographing every aspect of the process, from grinding the seat rim, cutting and shaping the seat, threading wiring harness through handlebars, wrestling with mounting the tires, and of course, taking it for a ride. The collaboration continued when Joshua decided to create a zine, and Bob offered to do the layout, which also features his own words during Joshua’s interview of him. The result captures all the grit and grim that’s involved in the process and is in perfect keeping with the subject matter.

Joshua entered the zine at the local level in Raleigh, where it won gold, and qualified it to move on to the region completion, where it won silver, and on again to the national completion, where it won gold again.
