Andy Goodwin Spends Time with the Exonerated

Exonerated

A record 149 people were exonerated of crimes they did not commit in 2015, and that number is likely to continue to climb in the years ahead. In Andy Goodwin’s new film, Exonerated, we meet some the falsely accused: Kristine, Leroy, Daniel, Jacques, Dana, and Juan, who spent a total of 109 years in prison before they were released with the aid of  the Northwestern University School of Law’s Center on Wrongful Convictions. How did this happen? As their stories unfold in a stark setting that recounts the years lost, we learn about instances of official misconduct, false confessions, faulty eyewitness testimony, and flawed forensics. There is an overwhelming sense of loss, but in the end, it seems there is nothing to do but to try and move on as they express their gratitude to the Center on Wrongful Convictions and for the support of friends and family who believed in their innocence throughout their struggles.
