The assignment to photograph young dancers at a dance school in Maine was a natural fit for Sara Forrest, who herself had been a dancer for over 20 years. But as she began working and observing, she perceived a deeper meaning in the young dancers going through their paces. She saw performing as a metaphor for life itself. “We are all asked to be soloists and sometimes part of the corps de ballet.” In life and in dance, “it’s about overcoming fears and achieving our personal best,” says Sara. And sometimes, it’s just about creating beauty for beauty’s sake.
