Gary Kelley’s Massive Mural Project

Posted on

Gary Kelly’s mural for this massive Google Data Center lays out a visual narrative of the history of how the world becomes connected, by featuring the significant players and technological developments in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

From the time explorers Lewis and Clark first arrived in Council Bluffs and held council with the Native Oto Indian Tribe to share their discoveries, Council Bluffs became a hub for the dissemination of information, first regionally, then nationally, and today, internationally.

In the first video Gary tells us his thoughts behind how he developed the narrative that successfully links the past and the present as the country expanded westward and now globally connected.  The second video gives us a look at the nuts and bolts of bringing it all together.
