James O’Brien Shares Some of His Best from 2020

Posted on

The selection of imagery James O’Brien sent us shows us the breadth of his technique and how, as he tells us, “I tend to let an assignment determine the particular style I use; sometimes it’s a handmade look like the Bulletin cover; other times it’s a clean, graphic look like the Hourly Rent illustration for the New York Times.” He experimented a bit with Math Beauty and made it more of a pattern illustration with a much wider color palette than usual. He normally  treats his animated illustrations as add-ons, but for r40hz Brain Waves,  animation was a part of the original concept and a great use of the medium.
