Photographer/Director Jim Luning was hired to film, photograph and shoot drone footage and stills for Mexico By Moto in January. Mexico By Moto is a Chicago-based motorcycle tour company that offers tours generally starting and stopping in Mexico City.
With decades of experience riding motorcycles in all conditions, Jim is a master of the “rolling shot.” Balancing a throttle in one hand and a camera in the other while navigating curves at full speed requires a level of focus and skill that few possess—but one Jim has uniquely perfected.
Those skills were a baseline requirement for the eight day, 850 mile journey, riding one of the tours biggest KTM Adventure Bikes. The riding portion was a mix of twisting roads and highway through the mountains south and west of Mexico City and up to Angangueo (which is the winter home of the Monarch butterflies). The last stop before riding back into Mexico City was a sunrise balloon ride over the Teotihuacan Pyramids. Jim proved to be the perfect man for the job, with life and work experience melding, resulting in promotional material that captured the tour’s exhilaration and love of adventure.
