In this latest release of USPS postcard stamps, illustrator Kim Johnson captures the seasonal changes in the rural landscape that reflect her childhood memories spent in Iowa Falls, where her mother grew up. In this set of four, the quality of light and color shifts in spring when the landscape comes back to life. In summer, the skies are conflicted as thunderstorms move in and out. Kim captures the the warm tones of autumn with the hazy light of Indian summer, and finally, the icy blues of winter and a full moon casting hard shadows on the snow.Kim works directly on the computer and told us, ” Strangely enough, working on the computer feels more organic for me, as I can let the art evolve as I work on it. I can move elements around, add or delete things, and modify colors much more readily than I could if I were working on paper.”
