Each month, we spotlight a trending topic in illustration, and this week we’re focusing on diversity.
“With great power comes great responsibility.” Though originally from a comic book, the phrase resonates strongly in advertising today. Agencies are increasingly aware of their role in shaping representation, creating work that reflects the diversity of real people and potential audiences. On our podcast, Workbook Radio, former SVP of The Martin Agency Tasha Dean emphasized the responsibility of advertising media to craft a visible landscape that prioritizes inclusivity.
Illustration is moving in the same direction. Commissioned projects now often highlight a spectrum of identities, offering viewers touchpoints they can see themselves in. Celebrating different skin tones, fashion, piercings, and cultural markers, artists are creating rich, dynamic compositions that connect communities and amplify messages. It’s a space where Workbook’s talent truly excels—turning inclusivity into vivid, compelling storytelling through art.
