Where Are We Now Part 2 included Mike Bilbrey, VP of Production/Leo Burnett, Heather Elder, artists representative, Jodi Morrison, Group Manager, Creative and Photography Production/Starbucks Coffee Company, Pat Molnar, photographer and director. Here’s some of the most important takeaways from this latest in-depth discussion:

When location production can resume will be determined by lawyers, insurance companies, and municipalities that issue permits, and when they determine it is safe. They may also apply some restrictions on productions moving forward, such as how many members may gather on a location.

  • Clients are looking to photographers and their representatives to license stock imagery or libraries of imagery. Re-use of imagery is also being renegotiated.
  • Some virtual shoots continue as studio shoots where a photographer is essentially shooting alone and acting as his own digital tech and assistant.
  • Clients are considering more illustration and CGI solutions because these image providers have generally always worked in isolation.
  • For now, client messaging is primarily focused on working to service their communities in the safest possible way. No one wants to appear to be tone-deaf. Clients will have to revisit everything post-Covid-19 to prepare for what their futures may look like and what their business will be.
  • Artists continue to promote their work in a solution-oriented fashion. Follow up is not necessary. Virtual tours of websites have been useful, and creative buyers are open to them.
  • Artists should use the time to create and plan for new imagery in order to refresh portfolios and websites.
