William & Mary Alumni Magazine commissioned Zara Picken to illustrate the cover of their recent issue and a feature entitled “Sustainable Solutions.” The article highlights the stories of W&M Alumni who have found opportunities and challenges in the growing field of renewable energy.

Zara Picken is a UK-based illustrator known for her bold style, which features vibrant colors, geometric shapes, and subtle textures. Since graduating from the University of the West of England in 2008, she has developed a distinctive approach that blends digital techniques with a paper-cut aesthetic. Zara creates visually impactful illustrations for a diverse range of international clients across editorial, publishing, and advertising sectors.
