Photographer/Director duo Tracy + David recently photographed Deep End Fitness and Underwater Torpedo League: a sport and training system where athletes push themselves to the edge underwater. The work blends intensity and calm, spotlighting strength, grit, resilience and trust.
They approached the project with perspectives above and below the surface. Tracy, a scuba diver and former competitive swimmer with years of underwater photography experience, photographed beneath the surface, while David captured the action on land and from the air with a drone. Together, they built a layered series that reveals both the intensity under the surface and the energy driving it above.
What drew them most to this project was how unusual it was. Having never heard of the sport before, they were struck by the idea of athletes training to stay calm when every instinct says panic. That challenge—and the resilience behind it—made it a story they couldn’t wait to dive in to (literally) and capture in both stills and video.
