Photographer/Director Dan Goldberg and food stylist Maria Del Mar have embarked on a deeply personal collaboration to revive and document Maria’s childhood recipes from her native Nicaragua. Together, they are reviving Maria’s childhood recipes and capturing them through photography. Inspired by conversations about preserving cultural heritage through food, they hope this project may evolve into a cookbook and possibly even a trip to Nicaragua.
Maria selects dishes from her childhood and shares the memories, smells, colors, and textures associated with them. Dan and Maria collaborate to evoke these emotions through their photos, using carefully selected props and backgrounds. Every shot is a new experience for Dan, whose aim is to capture the essence of Maria’s home and heritage.
Dan’s extensive travels in Central and South America have instilled in him a deep respect for culinary and cultural traditions. He is passionate about preserving these stories and believes that sharing meals is a universal way to connect. You can read an interview with both Maria and Dan discussing the work here.
